Methodology
How we compare Staten Island landscapers
This guide ranks Staten Island landscapers and explains exactly how — the criteria, the Guide Score, and where the lines are. Rankings are editorial, and current positions are illustrative until verified provider data is applied.
How we evaluate and group providers
We organize providers by the work they actually do, the parts of Staten Island they serve, and the kind of customer they tend to fit. A crew built for South Shore lawn programs is described differently from a hardscaper who builds retaining walls on Todt Hill slopes.
How we rank and score
Each provider gets an editorial Guide Score on a 0–10 scale, and the list is ordered best-first by that score. The Guide Score is not a customer rating — it is our weighted assessment against a fixed rubric:
- Service range & specialization fit (25%) — does the provider genuinely cover the work, and lead in a clear category?
- Staten Island track record (20%) — local experience and the areas actually served.
- Licensing & insurance (20%) — verified credentials for New York City work.
- Pricing transparency (15%) — clear, written, itemized estimates.
- Responsiveness & communication (10%) — how the provider handles enquiries and scheduling.
- Reputation (10%) — signals from disclosed, independent sources, never invented.
Every ranked listing shows the specific signals behind its position, so the order is auditable rather than asserted. Ties are broken in favor of stronger verified licensing and insurance, then a clearer local track record, then breadth of service. We review rankings on a rolling basis, re-score when a provider's verified information changes, and date each profile.
The current ranks and Guide Scores are our editorial assessment of each company's public information as of June 2026 — not independent testing, lab results, or paid placement. Every profile cites its source and tells you to verify directly; we re-score as a company's verified information changes. We also award a category superlative — Best Overall, Best for Hardscaping, and so on — so you can jump straight to the leader for your specific job.
Data sources
Verified profiles draw on the provider's own published information, public licensing and business records, and other disclosed sources noted on each profile. Each profile is compiled from the company's own public website and listings as of June 2026, with the source cited on the profile. We re-check and re-date profiles as that information changes, and we never republish third-party star ratings or review counts as if they were ours.
What sponsored and enhanced profiles mean
Some providers may pay for an enhanced profile or a sponsored placement. Those are labeled wherever they appear. A sponsored placement can affect visibility — for example, a featured slot — but it does not change our written assessment of who a provider fits.
What sponsorship does not do
- It does not buy a higher recommendation or a better-fit description.
- It does not hide limitations or remove competitors.
- It does not create ratings, awards, or review counts.
No fake ratings or guaranteed outcomes
We do not publish invented star ratings, review totals, prices, certifications, or "winner" badges. We also do not promise results — availability, quality, and pricing vary by provider and by job. Where we mention reputation, we point you to verify it yourself rather than inventing a score.
Questions to ask before you hire
- Are you licensed and insured for this specific job in New York City? Can I see proof?
- Do you regularly work my part of Staten Island?
- Can I get a written, itemized estimate, and how is the job priced?
- Who does the actual work — your crew or a subcontractor?
- For tree or hardscape work: how do you handle access, cleanup, and the base or rigging?
- Can you share recent local references for similar work?
Updates and corrections
We review profiles on a rolling basis and date each one. If a detail is wrong or out of date, email editor@landscaperstatenisland.com and we'll correct it. Providers can also claim or update a profile.
